Our experience at MWC 2009

Hi,
For second year we exhibited at Mobile World Congress 2009, at Innovation Zone. We are very happy, even the final number of the event this year was aproximately 5% less due to economic downturn, we received much more visitors than last year, and what is more important, very focused in understanding our products and the applications for their businesses.

We showcase our portfolio: our usability (multimodal interaction) platform (AVISG), VoxServe, the PTT platform to create compelling services using push to talk, and the LiveServe 3.0, our LiveServe Solution FrameWork to create added value use cases based on mobile video.
Carrier technologists and enterprise segments leaders, IT integrators, banking CIO's, start-ups possible partners...made impossible with their kind an positive visits to take a few minutes rest :-)
We were also visited by several VC partners and we expect we can get the funding round planned during this year to positionate Solaiemes as a mobility solutions infrastructure reference in the market.
Solaiemes booth was also visited by several IT/Telco Analysts and we were shocked this week when being mentioned in the Frost & Sullivan MWC Key Takeaways keynote (by Ronald Gruia). Update 7/March/2008. The keynote is now available at slideshare.net. It is an easy to read/understand MWC highlights and foreseeing the trends summary.

We still believe in Push to Talk as a powerful service enabler

Hi, during the MWC we will be showcasing our whole portfolio, and yes, we still are firmly believer in PoC (push over cellular) potential. There are a lot of fields, both, mass market and enterprise/government activities needing a quick audio and/or pic reporting. Those use cases are needing PTT as a easier mechanism to carry voice to server based solutions.
Fortunately, several companies are developing following OMA standards the PTT servers and even devices focused in complex application areas. One of them is Sonim Technologies, with very useful (and affordable) PTT enabled ruggedized devices XP1 and XP3 (and also their OMA PTT Server).

Solaiemes is working with their VoxServe technology to provide a solutions framework to offer as license and/or SaaS a layer to combine the PTT service and the PTT devices to build added value solutions. Mass market and enterprise/government field daily activities can take profit of reporting, recording, real time information sharing PTT can provide. A wide range of use cases for PTT are not replacing circuit switch voice calls (main fear of mobile carriers reluctant to promote PTT). Please, all we must open minds and boost Mobility.

Solaiemes to join GSMA's Rich Communication Suite programme (RCS)

Solaiemes is joining GSMA's Rich Communication Suite (RCS) programme, first born as a initiative launched by several big players and now opened to participants outside that circle, under the GSMA aegis (more information about GSMA's RCS programme at http://www.gsmworld.com/rcs/programme.shtml).

We hope to bring forward our marketplace vision, hopefully different and enriching, and help with our technology, specially LiveServe.

LiveServe is right in the crossroads between open enablers (VideoShare and videocall), affordable handsets and Web 2.0. It is probably the most advanced mobile video platform for social uses, enterprise and vertical markets. We are saying it aloud: we can, let us work together with you: achieving more with less. Read about our disruptive approach here: instead of rely on applications only for high-tier devices, we promote powerful and standardized enablers, common across device range and vendors.

Yes, We Can... enable a new mobility path

In the following ppt Solaiemes wants to point out certain assumed myths about mobility are not so true....A wide spectrum of rich experiences are not limited to high-tier devices, and the way to create use cases is not only with external applications to be installed. Mobile classical enablers are powerful enough (voice, browser, ptt, videoshare, videocall, etc) when using it properly combined with innovative infrastructure solutions :-)

WIMS 2.0. Solaiemes, partner of this initiative.

WIMS 2.0 is a recent initiative promoted by Telefonica trying to converge WEB 2.0 concepts with the new carrier enablers coming with IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem). Solaiemes joined the initial partner list of this initiative from the begining. This Telefonica initiative is a very good move to boost mobile services and increase the mobile data users.
Solaiemes vision matches the final goals of WIMS 2.0 Manifesto. We believe walled-garden is not a valid model to take profit (consumer, MNO, service provider) of all the cellular networks can offer, but the bit pice aproach is ok for personal computing but it lack of the needed usability when we are talking about mobile devices, and succesful services should be addressed to mass market with heterogeneus device types.
We believe in network capabilities and common device features to deliver compelling user experiences, and to reduce adoption curve lengths of new services. In spite of IMS adoption is being carried very slowly, IMS and their associated initial services as PTT, VideoShare, Presence, will be enabling a common interface wide range of services.
If we analyze properly the reasons of SMS unexpected huge success, perhaps the main reasons are:

  • common interface, you can do a lot of things (message a friend, tele-vote, sending message to be inserted in TV program, buying ringtones, ok to banking operations...)
  • supported in all devices, then all services have initially all population as possible target user.
  • device suppliers had realized of SMS importance and simplified the user interface, (Shorcuts to compose, iTap, etc).
Solaiemes is working to demonstrate with compelling user experiencies that VideoShare, PTT and mobile browser with push technologies will become the key revenue (for MNO's) and key service enabler (for users) next future. Our target is then, aligned with WIMS 2.o goal.

We are happy to cooperate inside WIMS 2.0 with other partners as Alcatel-Lucent, Unkasoft, UPM and Kimia helping to make feasible new concepts of Mobility.
